As a legislator, I travel to St. Paul each week listening to public radio. While it's a wonderful way to pass the time, I could be much more productive if I were riding on a train. What a perfect couple of hours to answer constituent emails, review legislation and prepare for my students at the University of Minnesota Duluth. When I arrive home, I'd have that much more time to spend with my family.
Minnesota will hold political caucuses on March 1. I hope you will attend and participate in the political process. Attending caucus is one of the best ways to learn about candidates, raise important issues, influence party endorsements and meet neighbors who share your values. As Sen. Paul Wellstone often remarked, "The future will not belong to those who sit on the sidelines."
As a parent of two active young boys, I am concerned about the use of shredded tires on playgrounds and athletic fields in Duluth and Minnesota. I became more concerned after attending a local meeting hosted by the Duluth Parents for Healthy Playgrounds and reading research from independent scientists.
