The Duluth Monarch Festival is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 20 at First United Methodist (Coppertop) Church, 230 E. Skyline Parkway. Attendees will see real monarch eggs, caterpillars and butterflies. Beekeepers and children’s book author Linda Glaser will be present. There will be face painting and many activities for kids. Wear butterfly wings, antennae or colors.
This Saturday, Feb. 18, fans of University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) basketball are in for a treat. While attending the women’s and men’s games, audience members can also enjoy fun, science and engineering demonstrations. The event will also recognize student athletes that are part of UMD’s Swenson College of Science & Engineering (SCSE) .
Cabin fever reliever
St. Louis County Public Health nurses will conduct a series of free flu shot clinics in Duluth for people ages six months and older who are uninsured or underinsured. Dates and locations are as follows: • Wednesday, Nov. 9, 9:30 -11:30 a.m. CHUM, 120 W. Second St. • Tuesday, Nov. 15, 9:30-11:30 a.m. San Marco Apartments, 230 W. Third St. • Wednesday, Nov. 16, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Damiano Center, 206 W. Fourth St.
In Minnesota, there are 60-90 cases of sudden infant deaths each year. Research shows that unsafe sleep arrangements are often common in these cases. Babies Need Boxes seeks to change this by providing mothers with a maternity package that offers a safe sleep space and newborn essentials to aid in the first few months of baby's life.
