Letter: Clever crows take Sunday off

Dear Editor,

I read the article that Jadell Cavallin had written about how intelligent crows are, and I know that to be true. I grew up in a remote area in Ireland where it was all farmland. We walked to a two-room school. There was an area where there were many large trees. The crows made it their home. They flew off in the morning and returned in the evening. I always wondered where they went and what they did. The crows do the same here, leave in the morning and return in the evening.

On March 1st, they would start building their nests and the noise of cawing was very loud. If March 1st fell on a Sunday, they would not build. We always attended mass on Sunday that way, so we would know nothing was happening. I am now 83 and still remember it distinctly.

Yours sincerely,

Helen Dumancus
