Steam power and baseball at Karpeles

"Full Steam Ahead: Steam Power at the Head of the Great Lakes" is a panel discussion 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, April 16 at Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum, 902 E. First St. The event highlights manuscripts from the Karpeles exhibition on Robert Fulton's steam engine and features talks on historic steam navigation on the Great Lakes by naval engineer Roger Pellet and former head of the Maritime Museum Thom Holden. Tom Koehler, who heads the preservation commission of the Edna G., and Tim Schandel, curator of the Depot Train Museum, will talk about current projects to restore and preserve historic Steam Engine No. 28.

"The History of Baseball" is a new exhibition in partnership with the Duluth Huskies opening 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, April 17. Gallery tours, hot dogs and popcorn will be available. Kids can enjoy outdoor inflatables and taking photos with Harley D. Husky. Proceeds from the festival booths will support restoration of the Karpeles Museum building.
