Free blood lead testing today and tomorrow

Lead poisoning is 100 percent preventable. The American Lung Association is teaming up with five community partners to raise awareness about the dangers of lead paint to families with young children and pregnant women who live in homes built prior to 1978.

Free lead testing for children under the age of six and pregnant women will be offered at these events. Educational materials will be available about the dangers of lead and strategies that families can take to protect themselves. Families will also have an opportunity to learn about free in-home scans and grant funds that could help to remove lead hazards from homes. These events are free and open to the public.

Testing is at the following places and times:

  • Piedmont Elementary Head Start, 2827 Chambersburg Ave., 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday April 24
  • Myers- Wilkins Elementary Head Start, 1027 N. Eighth Ave. E., 2:30-5:30 p.m. Monday April 24
  • Laura MacArthur Head Start, 720 N Central Ave., 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday April 25.

This year’s partners include: Duluth Healthy Homes, the Sustainable Laura MacArthur Elementary School Head Start, Piedmont Elementary School Head Start, and Myers-Wilkins Elementary School Head Start. Learn more at src-mn.org/steps-lead-safety.
