Fill an empty bowl

The 24th annual Empty Bowl event is Monday and Tuesday, April 10 and 11 at the Depot, 506 W. Michigan St. All proceeds raised benefit Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank.

The Sea of Bowls, a preview event, is 5-7 p.m. on Monday. Patrons get first choice of fine-art bowls made by local artists at the gallery-style showing complete with reception. Admission is free; bowls range in price from $25 to $100.

Empty Bowl takes place 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Attendees choose a handcrafted Empty Bowl created by area artists, schoolchildren and community members for $20 per bowl. A meal of soup, bread and beverages, donated by the region's chefs and purveyors, is provided at no additional charge. A silent auction features works from area artists.

Volunteers are needed to unload tables, chairs and boxes 9-11 a.m. on Monday, April 10. To sign up call (218) 336-2303 or email jill@northernlakesfoodbank.org.

Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank is the region's only food bank and rescuer of nationally and regionally donated food for 180 nonprofit programs. It benefits 44,000 people in need throughout Northeastern Minnesota and Northwestern Wisconsin.
