Man behind the medal
The St. Louis County Historical Society and the Veterans' Memorial Hall program invites the public to the 12th annual Veterans Remembrance Dinner on Thursday, Dec. 8 in the Great Hall of the St. Louis County Heritage & Arts Center (the Depot), 506 W. Michigan St. The theme for this year's event is "The Man Behind the Medal: The Story of Duluth's Native Son, Major Henry Courtney, Jr."
Keynote speaker is Captain Michael Stainbrook, Sr., Delta Air Lines (ret.), and Captain with Northwest Airlines. Court Storey, nephew of Major Courtney, will present the story of the family's efforts to bring the medal home for display in Veterans' Memorial Hall.
The event begins with a social hour at 5 p.m. and will end by 8 p.m. Spotlighted will be the presentation of the Mike Colalillo Medal of Honor Scholarship in the amount of $1,500, to this year's winner.
Tickets are $25 and may be purchased at the office of Veterans' Memorial Hall at the Depot or be reserved by calling (218) 733-7586. Proceeds from the event will help support the Veterans Memorial Hall Program of the St. Louis County Historical Society.
