'Fire in the Village' to be launched

Anne M. Dunn

The publication launch of "Fire in the Village: New and Selected Stories" (Holy Cow! Press, 2016) by Anishinabe-Ojibwe storyteller Anne M. Dunn is 7-8:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30 at Trepanier Hall, AICHO, 212 W. Second St. The event is free and open to the public.

The book gathers 75 stories from Anne's out-of-print collections and includes 25 new stories. The cover art and interior illustrations were created by Dunn's daughter, Annette Humphrey, who is also a musician and will perform at the event.

The stories are about how things came to be and how the humans (some of them, anyway) came to understand their responsibilities to all Creation; how the Little People can make huge things happen; why butterflies are beautiful but can't sing; why the tamarack drops its needles in winter. There are also stories covering Indian residential schools, racism and alcoholism.

The book is available from local bookstores or through For information contact Holy Cow! Press at (218) 724-1653 or
