Service after military service
Veterans' Memorial Hall, a program of the St. Louis County Historical Society, kicks off the "Year of the Servicewoman" with a free event in the local history discussion series, "History in a Pint." The presentation, entitled "Continuing to Serve after Service," will be 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, at Carmody Irish Pub & Brewing, 308 E. Superior St.
Buffy Moncel, a recently arrived resident of the Twin Ports, will be the first female veteran to speak at "History in a Pint." She served nine years and eight months in the U.S. Air Force and will talk about her service in combat and on the home front.
Moncel is the team coordinator for the veterans' organization Team Red White and Blue. She helped to start the Twin Ports field chapter. She is also helping to create a separate nonprofit called 'Heroes," which will provide funding for the initiatives of local veterans, law enforcement, fire fighters and EMTs.
