Riding coach in style
The Budgeteer office got a blast from the past this week when a red stagecoach appeared on a trailer in front of the window of our First Street office.
Doug Taylor, owner of Action Entertainment in Pine River, jumped out of his pickup truck and paid for metered parking in two spaces. One was for his pickup and one for the stagecoach, which he pulled on the trailer. Taylor came to Duluth to get licenses for his horses that will pull the stagecoach throughout the streets. He headed across the street to City Hall and came back to the Budgeteer offices to show us six licenses for his horses. Taylor hopes that this summer, Duluth residents and visitors will have the opportunity to ride in his authentic 1868 Concord stagecoach through Canal Park and other scenic Duluth locations.
The Concord is a relic of the past, once used in the old west by Wells Fargo. Pulled by a four- or six-horse hitch, it’s known for the iconic red color and yellow-spoked wheels. Taylor hopes to be in Canal Park on various weekends throughout the summer.
