New parking pay stations on Superior Street

Budgeteer News

Beginning mid- to late January, the city of Duluth will be replacing the quarters-only meters with a four- to seven-month trial installation of state-of-the-art on-street parking payment technology downtown between Third- and Fourth Avenues West on Superior Street.

The new pay station benefits include:

•expanded payment options, including $1 bills, coins, and credit- and debit cards

•option to obtain receipt

•sleek streetscape appearance

•networked system providing the ability to park in any space and pay at any of the pay stations.

The goals of the trial are to:

•gather customer feedback as compared to using current quarters-only meters

•evaluate how many pay stations are required per block for optimal customer convenience

•test cold-weather performance of the pay stations

•if successful, utilize trial findings to plan for staged citywide replacement of quarters-only meters with new multi-space technology.
