New books offer Duluth stories, Lake Superior cuisine

Two upcoming literary events highlight new books about the region.

On Sunday, April 27, 2 p.m., Michael Fedo discusses “Zenith City: Stories from Duluth.” He will be at Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Miller Hill Mall. The book is a memoir of growing up in Duluth, with reflections on the colorful and occasionally dark history and its famous visitors such as Sinclair Lewis, Joe DiMaggio, and Bob Dylan.

James Norton and Becca Dilley discuss “Lake Superior Flavors: A Field Guide to Food and Drink along the Circle Tour” on Saturday, May 3 at the Bookstore at Fitger’s, 600 E. Superior St. Booksigning is at 1:30 with a lecture at 2 p.m.; refreshments provided. The founders of the food website Heavy Table go on a culinary tour around Lake Superior, hitting high-traffic tourist spots and cultural institutions as well as off-the-beaten-path discoveries.

Both books are published by University of Minnesota Press.
