Generation Silent: film addresses LGBT seniors
The movie “Gen Silent” will be shown Wednesday, May 7, 6:30 p.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
“Gen Silent” is a documentary which follows the lives of six LGBT seniors living in the Boston area who must choose if they will hide their sexuality in order to survive in the long-term health care system.
The title of the film is a reference to the generations of older LGBT people who remain in the closet or re-enter the closet out of concern for their safety or quality of life. There are distinctive issues that aging LGBT individuals and couples face in the areas of health care and housing, and this film does a great job of introducing the viewer to these issues.
“Gen Silent” is sponsored by Welcoming Ministries of Gloria Dei and is open to the public. The film is just over an hour long and will be followed by a short discussion time. Refreshments will be provided. Gloria Dei is located on the corner of 6th Ave. E. and 3rd St. in Duluth.
