Family fun day grows up
As part of the Spirit Valley Days, the Irving Community Club and the Vineyard church are coming together to offer a Family Fun Day on Saturday, August 2, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will consist of a variety of activities.
“There’s gonna be face painting, zoo animals, vendors, mini-donuts. Home Depot is doing some wood projects,” said Angelo Simone, vice president of the Irving Community Club. “There will be music, free food, a lot of games for the kids to play, a cotton candy machine, pumpkin bouncer, all that kind of stuff.”
This year will mark the third annual Family Fun Day. The event got off to a slow start but as the years progress, it is only improving.“The first year we did it kind of small just right down in the streets of Spirit Valley Days, and it didn’t really work out very well because it was windy,” Simone said. “Then we moved it into Memorial Park, which is right next to the Valley Youth Center. It worked out really well last year. I think we had over 500 people come through.”
The goal is simply to provide an opportunity for families to enjoy time together. “I think it’s gonna be fun watching the kids and the families just sitting around having fun. It’s just cool watching the volunteers working with the kids, and just watching the kids running around with smiles on their faces,” Simone said. “That’s what I look forward to.”
