On May 13, Duluth Shimmy Mob is celebrating World Belly Dance Day on Saturday, May 13, helping to raise awareness and funds for Safe Haven and CASDA-domestic abuse shelters in the Duluth-Superior region. A Shimmy Mob is a group of dancers who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform a choreographed routine then disperse. The first performance will be at the Depot- North Shore Scenic Railroad for National Train Day between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. and the second performance will be at Bent Paddle’s Festiversary between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
World Belly Dance Day is internationally recognized in the Belly Dance community with events happening around the world. Shimmy Mob will be promoting local Belly Dance Day events such as free classes, workshops, demonstrations and performances.
