Local residents graduate from military training

Several Duluth area residents have completed military training programs over the past few months.

The Budgeteer has received updates about the following Duluth, Hermantown and Proctor natives.

Air National Guard Airman Miles M. Barnidge graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. He is a 2012 graduate of Century High School, Rochester. Barnidge is the son of Phyllis Barnidge of Rochester, and grandson of Phillip Carlson of Hermantown.

Air National Guard Airman Zachery S. Bourgeault graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. Bourgeault is the son of Steven Bourgeault of Duluth. He is a 2011 graduate of AlBrook High School, Saginaw.

Air Force Airman Kaylor P. Chesney graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. Chesney is the son of Andrea Bloom and Marlin Chesney, both of Duluth. He is a 2012 graduate of Hermantown High School.

Air Force Airman Eli M. Cook graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. Cook is the son of Wayne and Bonnie Cook of Proctor. He graduated from a home-school program in 2011.

Air National Guard Airman Keegan J. Flaherty graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. Flaherty is the son of Sean Flaherty of Duluth. He is a 2012 graduate of East High School, Duluth.

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Robert S. Mackereth graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. Mackereth is the son of Patrice Mackereth and grandson of Shirley Mackereth, both of Duluth. He is a 2010 graduate of Proctor High School.

Air Force Airman

1st Class Kaitlin E. O'Connor graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. O'Connor is the daughter of Stephanie and Tom O'Connor of Two Harbors. She is a 2012 graduate of Duluth East High School.

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Brent M. Schumacher graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. Schumacher is the son of Neal and Terri Schumacher of Duluth. He is a 2006 graduate of Duluth Central High School.

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Mark J. Skadsberg graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. Skadsberg earned distinction as an honor graduate. He is the son of Eric and Janet Skadsberg of Duluth. The airman is a 2009 graduate of East High School, Duluth.

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Logan D. Sobczak graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. He is a 2010 graduate of Duluth Central High School. Sobczak is the son of

Jeralynn and Michael Sobczak of Duluth.

Army National Guard Pvt. Joleen A. Engstad has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Engstad is the daughter of John Engstad of Duluth and Jill Engstad of Cloquet. She is a 2010 graduate of Hermantown High School.

Army National Guard Pvt. Haley L. Francis has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Francis is a 2012 graduate of Hermantown High School.

Army Cadet Micayla J. Westendorf has received an Army ROTC scholarship to College of Saint Benedict, St. Joseph, Minn. Scholarships are awarded on a merit system in areas such as academic achievement, extracurricular activities, physical fitness, specific performance or accomplishment, leadership abilities, and personal interviews. Scholarship recipients are enrolled as members of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps of Cadets. The scholarship entitlements include tuition and fees and an allowance of $600 per semester for educational assistance, textbooks, supplies and equipment, and a monthly stipend for up to 10 months of each school year during the first year at the host college or university. Westendorf is the daughter of Gordon Westendorf and Cynthia Roden of Duluth.
